What makes a perfect optical illusion drawing? It’s a question not many artists have asked. Most artists have been inspired by optical illusions for as long as they have been creating art. Some even have their own version of optical illusion drawings to show off to their fellow artists.
Optical illusion drawings have become some of my favourite drawing forms. Do you know how many different versions of an artist has created for this beautiful final output? But can’t stop enjoying his intricate, colourful, detailed optical illusion drawings.
Here is a look at a couple optical illusion drawings I recently got. The first one I have shown here is called the Fish drawing. This fish illusion is done with a simple flat image of a fish. The other way you can create a 3d illusion drawing using opticals is with the help of a ball.
To make a 3d drawing you need to have two images to use for your optical illusion drawings. One is of a smooth, round object and the other is of the same object with a hole at the bottom. The optical illusion, you will be creating with this technique is where the round object appears to be made up of many smaller spheres. To make this effect you need to make sure that all the holes in your drawing are the same size.
To make your optical illusion masterpiece, you first need to have your fish selected. Choose the largest sphere in your fish drawing and draw around it. Now remove the sphere from its spot and place it somewhere on your paper. Make sure the edges line up as much as possible. If you don’t have any fish to use just use a simple circle so that you get a smooth circular image.
After this you need to make two more copies of the image on top of the original one. Draw cones or wavy lines to make these images look more realistic. Next you need to make a third copy of your image. Using a pencil to make a mark on the image where you believe the main object sits.
Next draw a line from the mark you made to the actual object. This way you know exactly where the object should sit in your image. Once you have your fish place it on the image. You need to make it look like the fish is floating just like it would in real life.
After you have your fish drawn you can erase the original image and start fresh. Create a new image and just add new objects and spots. Keep on adding more fish until you reach your desired optical illusion style. Try making the background similar to the image you just made. You can use a color wheel if you need help.
When you are done with your fish drawing, erase all the lines except for the ones that make up the optical illusion. Make sure you don’t make any mistakes because if you do you will not be able to see what you are drawing. Then erase the rest of the background. Start over again with a clean slate so nothing is confusing you.
As you draw the fish try to make it as realistic as possible. Keep in mind that objects in the foreground will not have the same effect as those in the distance. For example, if you are drawing a big fish in the distance then it probably will not look as big as the smaller fish close to the foreground. The size of your fish will depend on how far you want to make it look. You also need to keep in mind that your drawing will become a masterpiece.
If you want your optical illusion to last for a long time, then you need to practice often. Learn from others’ mistakes and from what you learn from your own mistakes. You can go to an art class and use their help to practice. You can even watch other artists while practicing. The more you practice the better you will get at drawing real fish. It may take you a few months to really get the hang of this but as soon as you get the hang of it you will find it easy to draw almost every single fish you want.
Even if you don’t think you have the talent or ability to be an artist, you can still follow your optical illusion goal by creating beautiful fish drawings. All you need is the desire, imagination and skill. And believe me, if you have all of these things in order, you will be able to make some very good fish paintings.
