Complete Guide to a Mommy Makeover

Written by andreakhanum

The mommy makeover has been rising to popularity in the recent years due to its’ great promising results. It is a series of surgical procedures aiming to return a woman’s body to its’ pre-pregnancy state. The results make women feel confident about themselves like the way they felt with their pre-baby selves.

The mommy makeover is like a custom surgery design which focuses on areas a mom would want to fix such as getting rid of extra fat around the body, renewing breasts, smoothening out the tummy among other procedures.

The procedures done during the mommy makeover include;

  • Tummy tuck
  • Breast lift
  • Breast Augmentation
  • Laser Liposuction
  • Fat Grafting

Tummy Tuck

Pregnancy is undeniably something beautiful but it comes with physical and anatomical changes which are not desirable. Fat redistribution and general stretching occur due to hormonal changes that happen in the body during pregnancy.

Maintaining a healthy diet and an exercise regime sometimes is not enough to lose that baby bulge. Due to severe skin and muscle laxity there is an undesirable sagging of the abdominal skin which appears stretched. A tummy tuck or abdominoplasty is the only solution that can fix all that.

In case a client has sagging skin between the naval and pubic area then it is advisable to just do a mini tummy tuck. A mini tummy tuck procedure has a smaller scar and less downtime as compared to a standard tummy tuck. During a mini tummy tuck excess skin is removed which results in a flatter mid-section area. Liposuction is also sometimes done so as to enhance the abdominal contours.

During a standard tummy tuck procedure excess skin is removed, muscles are tightened at the centre of the abdomen and a new belly button is created.

Breast Lift

Due to breast feeding, weight fluctuations, gravity, genetics and aging, breasts tend to lose volume and sink lower to the chest thus losing their youthful appearance. A breast lift is usually custom tailored to fit the patients’ unique needs.

Also known as a Mastopexy, a breast lift lifts sagging breasts proportionally and naturally balancing them on the chest. The procedure tightens the stretched tissue, reduces laxity in the skin and makes the breasts more firm and shapely.

During a breast lift elongated nipples can be repositioned and reformed to make them look more natural. Excess skin and unwanted tissues are removed and internal sutures are used to create support and lift for the remaining breast tissue. Once the procedure is done a compression garment is put in place for proper healing. A breast lift does not alter the size and volume of a breast. This is done during breast augmentation.

The downtime for a breast lift is about two weeks and mild discomfort and bruising are expected. Post surgery shape distortion and swelling are also common though they fade within the first few weeks. For the first four to six weeks lifting weights, heavy workouts and exercise should be avoided. The patient can resume their normal daily activities after a few days.

Breast Augmentation

Commonly known as a boob job, breast augmentation involves the use of saline or silicone breast implants or fat transfer to enhance the structure, size, shape and appearance of the breasts giving them a more youthful appearance. The procedure helps in contouring the body by giving it an aesthetically pleasing figure.

After pregnancy the breasts lose their volume and a boob job helps in restoring this. Breast augmentation increase the projection and fullness of the breasts, enhance self-confidence and self-image as well as improving balance of hip and breast contours.

A breast augmentation may be done alongside a breast lift for fuller and lifted breasts. The results of a breast augmentation are immediately noticeable.

After the procedure you will be required to wear a support garment such as an elastic band or a bra. Swelling and soreness are expected for the next few week as well as pain but it fades after a few days. You will be instructed by your doctor when you can resume normal activities.

Laser Liposuction

Laser liposuction is a quick and safe procedure of getting rid of excess fat from the chin, stomach, under arms, hips, flanks or thighs. It has little downtime and reduced risks. Smartlipo can be performed under local anaesthesia so there won’t be any risk or the fuzziness which is associated with general anaesthesia.

During the procedure a tiny incision is made on the targeted area and a small tube called the cannula containing laser fiber is inserted. Once under the skin it is gently rotated as it ruptures fat cells for removal. The procedure takes about two hours depending on the areas being targeted.

The smartlipo helps in reducing bleeding, swelling and bruising, it improves the recovery time, helps in collagen stimulation and tightens the skin.

The procedure has little to no downtime and minimal discomfort but this varies from patient to patient. Compression garments are worn so as to prevent blood clots from forming and encourage healthy healing. There might be numbness or bruising on the treatment area for several days after the procedure. The results are long lasting. Heavy exercises should be avoided for at least three weeks after the procedure.

Fat Grafting

Fat grafting also known as facial fat injections involves the transfer of fat from the body to the face. Fat grafting helps in reducing wrinkles, facial lines and deep folds on the face. Fat cells are usually used to add fullness to the cheeks, under the eyes, temples and sometimes on the lips and hands. Injecting fat cells on the face helps in replacing lost volume. The results are dramatic and they give the face a younger youthful appearance.

It also helps in improving the appearance of acne scars or any other facial scars as well as correcting the signs of aging.

The procedure takes about one to two hours and the results are instant. There might be slight discomfort, swelling or bruising on the areas where the fat is removed or added but this fades within a week or less.
